INDIVIDUALIZED, BRAIN-BASED LEARNING ENHANCEMENT
An estimated 25% of U.S. war deaths are preventable. There is an urgent need for accelerated classroom medical learning to advance Army-related medical performance and improve clinical outcomes.
Our study utilizes high-resolution brain imaging to develop an individualized, non-invasive brain stimulation protocol to enhance medical learning in the classroom. We then track how classroom learning translates to performance on medical simulation tasks. To accomplish this, we focus on Army medical training material.

Our core technical objectives are to:
1) Develop an individual-specific stimulation protocol for enhanced medical learning;
2) Track stimulation outcomes by learner profile (i.e. behavioral measures of reading ability, reading comprehension ability, and working memory) and emotionality of training content; and,
3) Develop our Key Technological Deliverable, BRILLIANCE (Brain-tailored stimulation protocol for accelerated medical performance). BRILLIANCE is a software that converts an individual's high-resolution brain patterns of learning into an optimal stimulation protocol for medical learning and performance gains.
Through these aims, this project will establish a scalable protocol for brain-based enhanced learning in typical adult readers.
